We are privately owned and our hierarchies are flat. With our headquarters in Europe/Germany and our office in the USA, we are close to the pulse of our most important markets. This enables us to be flexible, recognize market changes quickly, and act accordingly.

A steadily growing workforce of highly qualified employees develops our products K4 publishing system and seven DAM at our headquarters in the greater metropolitan region of Hamburg. This is the home base from which we also coordinate our global partner network.

Together with our global partner network, we look back on 30+ years of experience in content management solutions. Originally founded 1990 as a start-up for software localization, plug-in development and integration of publishing software, we were the first provider to develop a professional workflow solution based on Adobe InDesign in 1999. In 2010, we were (again) one of the first in the field of magazine apps for Adobe DPS (see our entire history below). vjoon has grown in recent years to become one of the largest providers of software solutions for smart content management. Customers of all sizes around the globe are already leveraging the power of vjoon solutions to improve their content supply chain and achieving incredible results.

Milestones through the years

In over three decades of our company history, there have always been exceptional moments with innovative highlights and business success. There have been smaller and larger ones, and some of them represent significant milestones for us and the industry. To give you a first impression, we have listed some of them here.

1990

vjoon was founded (at that time: “SoftCare Software-Service GmbH“) 

1990-1999

Strong expertise in software localization, plug-in development and integration of publishing software.

1999

Introducing “K4 Publishing System”; first publishing system for magazines based on Adobe InDesign.

In the following years, K4 becomes one of the leading InDesign-based publishing systems worldwide and wins numerous customers in Europe and the USA. These include major clients such as Hubert Burda Media and Condé Nast USA.

2001

With version 3, K4 is the first publishing system to integrate Adobe InCopy harmonized with InDesign. The separation of text and layout significantly optimizes collaboration in professional editorial environments.

K4 Publishing System is voted Seybold Editors’ Hot Pick at Seybold SF 2001 conference, making it one of the most important new products of the year.

2002

K4 version 4 is presented at the IFRA Expo in Barcelona.

2005

First “K4 User Conference”; Customers from all over the world gathered in Hamburg (Germany) to get first-hand information about K4 and to share experiences with vjoon and each other.

K4 version 5 is one of the first publishing systems to integrate Adobe InDesign Server to streamline standardized processes such as creating page previews for production monitoring.

Introduction of a new editor client, to edit multi-component articles and write to fit in a Web browser.

2008

Re-branding into “vjoon” to reflect the tremendous evolution of the company and its products.

Introducing K4 version 6, including re-design of workflow concept, architecture and technologies.

2010

Alliance between vjoon and Adobe in tablet publishing.

K4 is the first publishing system integrated with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), supporting “Wired” (USA) and “bulletin” (Switzerland) as the first magazines produced for the iPad.

vjoon is the first global reseller for Adobe DPS.

vjoon is “Software vendor of the year” at kress Awards.

2012

vjoon and its partners are the leading Adobe DPS resellers worldwide.

2013

Global roll-out of K4 at Condé Nast to unify content management within the entire group. With the existing installation in the USA, the roll-out will ultimately cover all 11 Condé Nast markets, including China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan and UK. Germany will also be switching to K4 at a later date.

Starting to integrate DAM-functionality into K4.

2014

vjoon brings its popular user conference “vjoonity” to the USA, which has become the largest market for K4.

Siemens AG’s annual report, created with K4, wins FOX Special award for workflow efficiency.

2016

Introduction of vjoon Storage Engine for agile data management.

2019

Celebrating our 30th company anniversary as well as 20 years of InDesign & K4.

Founding of vjoon Inc. to further strengthen our business in the USA.

2020

Launch of all new vjoon seven, the next-gen DAM platform, highly integrated with vjoon K4. 

Introducing Content Stories for working with articles in Content Editor to better support content first workflows as well as out-of-the-box integration with WordPress (parts of K4 version 10).

2023

Introduction of K4 Updater to enable automated updating of K4 clients for Adobe InDesign and inCopy via K4 Server.

Release of seven version 5 with support for Adobe Creative Cloud 2024, Improvements in handling of metadata and suitable renditions for any purpose.
